Professional Profile
I have been working in the Human Factors domain for over 9 years with a main emphasis on HMI design and specification, Simulation, Trials and more recently business and strategy development. My most recent work is developing company strategy for Mission Training and working as part of a small team to lead that strategy.
A lot of my time has been spent in Defence, particularly working in the Air domain and the NEC environment, though have also experience in Land and am very flexible about bringing my skills and experiences to new areas of interest.
I have a lot of experience in working on a consultant type basis as well as working with and leading teams have a significant and successful track record in both project management and technical contributions to projects. I am adaptable and am always looking to expand my knowledge base and provide responsibility for my own work and that of others.

BAE Systems - Advanced Technology Centre - 2004 – Present
Senior Principal Research Scientist
I have worked on a wide variety of projects ranging from blue sky approaches to designing interfaces for aircraft with a short project timescales. My typical tasks include:

Project experience
Mission Training – New Business Development Team
Responsible for Human Factors and Future Technologies aspects of the development of Mission Training as a new business.
Live Synthetic Balance Study
Seconded to RAF Air Command as a Human Factors Expert as part of a study team. Tasked to produce a study into the balance of Live and Synthetic Training on Eurofighter Typhoon and Tornado GR4.
HMI Design Lead -Harrier GR9 - TIEC
Responsible for leading the design of the HMI for the Tactical Datalink system (TIEC) and ensuring the implementation of the design by the supplier.
Smiths Aerospace 2001 – 2004
Technical Specialist
As Technical Specialist, I worked in the area of concept development of Advanced Crew Stations. This involved working on a number of both long and short term projects as Technical Lead, providing innovative solutions to problems, primarily in Human Interaction and Crew Support within the aerospace industry. Projects included DTI Funded AFDT3 (Advanced Flight Deck Technologies Phase 3), FSIRE (Future Systems and Interfaces Research Environment), and DVI (Direct Voice Input) Technology Trials.
British Army 1997 – 2001
I held the rank of Officer Cadet for 4 years whilst at Royal Military College of Science, Shrivenham, followed by the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. During this time, I completed a number of courses that tested and developed, amongst other military skills, my leadership qualities. I was medically discharged in 2001.
Professional Qualifications
I am a full member of the IET and have achieved the status of Chartered Engineer.

Modules included: Human Computer Interfaces, Project management, Knowledge Based Systems, Database Management, Systems Analysis and Data communications.

During my time at this Army 6th form I gained 4 A – Levels, Maths, Technology, Physics and General Studies.

During my time at this school in Silloth, Cumbria, I gained 11 GCSE’s including Maths, Science and English.
