Labour Party Conference Day 4 – #lab10

Slightly later start today and this time I went straight into the main conference hall to hear the speech by Andy Burnham.  This speech was NHS based and he also took some very good swipes at the Lib Dems and particularly Nick Clegg.  But he made some really critical points about the fact that Labour was responsible for the introduction of the NHS, and it still fulfils the basic duty of providing medical aid, free at the point of use.

I then went to a fringe event by Play England which was discussing the need for good playspaces for kids.  It was interesting as it really hammered the point home that when we were kids we tended to play in the street, yet kids now can’t do that as it is generally classed as Anti Social Behaviour.   I do think that we are good at proving play spaces for kids upto 10 years old, but we should also provide much more durable areas for 10 – 16 year olds.

In the afternoon was a Q&A with Ed Miliband, hosted by Eddie Izzard which was quite cool, but really it was not so much of a Q&A as a presentation of various people who have come to Labour from both the Lib Dems and the Conservatives.  There were a few questions from the floor bot nothing really controversial or anything.

On the way out I met some “tweeps” (people who tweet), including Tracy Cheetham who is @tchee on twitter and the better half of @cllrtim outside which was interesting, going up to someone and introducing yourself as @baz_k and then being introduced to other people as your twitter name rather than your real name.  The coming together of the cyber and real world 🙂

That was my last day at conference as I got the train back this morning.
