We have been waiting for the new bus services to roll out over Kingsway for some while and I have been working with various people over this issue to get the right result for residents. It has been a rocky road but through my door yesterday came the new bus timetable and I am pleased that the concerns of residents have been taken on board and the initially proposed 10 minute service is now a 20 minute service.
It’s not often that you get an issue that residents want less of something rather than more, but in this case, there was a large number of residents who thought the proposed 10 minute service going round by the school was just too much and they felt they were not getting anywhere with voicing their concerns directly, so they asked me what they should do. I asked them to give me a list of residents who supported their position and a week later they presented me with a considerable petition. This was great because it gave me something practical to work with. I raised the issue in a number of places and with a number of people and to cut a long story short, we have a great compromise which will ensure a good service for the estate, but not being too disruptive to the residents who live on the route.
This is still only an interim service, it will be reviewed on an annual basis and the route will develop to serve the houses and school that is being built now, so there is still a long way to go, but as long as people continue to listen to the community then we will have a great service.
