Exciting times – Severn FM get their licence to Broadcast!

Ofcom have issued Severn FM, run by South Gloucester Media CIC, with an RSL Licence from the 2nd December to 29th December 2011 on 87.9Mhz.  This means that for the month of December, we will not only be broadcasting through the internet as usual, but also on FM.  So, on your journeys into town, or wherever, you can listen in your car, you will be able to have it playing all over your house.  Needless to say, we are very very excited.

However, this does put a lot of pressure on as well, we need to build the studios and get all the broadcast kit.  We are applying for various grants and hoping companies will also buy advertising to help us get this community station really rolling.  Once the studios are built, then we can start working with local schools and organisations to produce shows and get them involved in all the facets of the enterprise.

Andy Clarke who setup Severn FM and is MD & Technical Director of SGM CIC said “we are really excited about being issued with the licence and are looking forward to the challenge around the studio logistics and realise it’s tight, but we are confident we’ll achieve it with the volunteers we have.” Severn FM has been streaming on the net since June and has received really good support from the local Parish & District Councils and the Communities as well. Broadcasting from Hardwicke in Gloucester, it will reach out to Quedgeley, Hardwicke, Kingsway, Haresfield, Elmore, Epney, Longney, Grange, Whaddon and Brookthorpe all south of Gloucester City Centre.”

We are kicking it all off with a public meeting on the 30th August at Hardwicke British Legion club at 1930h.  Everyone is welcome, from those of you who want to be the next Chris Moyles, to those who just want to know whats going on and if we can advertise something for you.

Most of all, goto www.SevernFM.com and have a listen!
