Yesterday I spent most of my day helping set up the fireworks display in Dimore II Playing fields in Quedgeley. This is an event, put on by the Quedgeley Parish council, primarily for the people of Quedgeley but also for other people to come on as well.
Early morning, met up with some of the other Councillors and other “willing” volunteers to get the field ready. This was much easier than I thought it was going to be, mainly putting fencing, Gazebos and various posters and banners up. Danters Funfair was there too, which provided entertainment before and after the fireworks. We worked until around mid day and then off home until the evening.
We reconvened and got the finishing touches in place, ready for people to arrive for gates opening around 6pm. The fireworks, which were set off to music, started at 7.30pm and lasted about half an hour. Then the funfair lasted until around 8/8.30ish for people to enjoy.
We spent time getting all the gazebos in and as much tidying up as we could in the dark. Putting the Gazebos down was a bit like of of those team building tasks 🙂
We returned this morning (Sunday) to finish off, but that didn’t take too long, and was good to have a bit of a natter too as we sorted it out.
This is the third time the Parish has put on the event and this was the most successful yet, with over a Thousand people through the gates. I think its great that we can put on events like this to bring the community together. I’m looking forward to next year already 🙂
