The official launch of the conference was really interesting. With a mix of fringe events and main conference speeches, it was a good kick off.
Some of the training I attended was around Campaigning and also a Friends of the Forces event which is a fantastic initiative to encourage more services/ex services people to represent their communities.
The DODS fringe looking at the week ahead, an insider’s view to conference was by far the best fringe I have ever been to. With a panel which included press, Stephen Pound MP and our very own Sophy Gardner. It never really got round to discussing the week ahead, but was a great insight into politics of the past and the future. It was very funny, but also very serious as we discussed issues around mental health and disability.
Moving onto the Labour List Rally, with a number of speakers, including Eddie Izzard and Stella Creasy who both gave great speeches, but the best of the night was by Owen Jones. I don’t necessarily agree with all he says, but he gave a really passionate performance.
From there it was to the Association of Labour Councillors reception, where the best speech was from Hilary Benn, who spoke with great enthusiasm for local government.
Overall a good and thought-provoking day.
